Description:

Regis University has embarked on a Business Intelligence initiative with a hybrid team that involves data stewards of enrollment management data, namely admissions, financial aid, and registration, and institutional research, information technology, and executive sponsors. The impetus for the new analytics program includes improving access to readily available analytics for decision-making, utilizing academic and financial resources more efficiently, better stewardship of institutional aid, aligning admission processes with student outcomes, and prioritizing academic programs. As institutions of higher education increasingly accomplish more with less, an analytics program can provide the needed insights for making needed changes that both improve academic outcomes and increase fiscal efficiencies. The presentation will outline ways in which a private non-profit institution began changing behavior through analytics.

Target Audience:

Those who are interested in utilizing analytics to improve financial and academic effectiveness and decision-making.

Speaking:

Ms Paula Harmer, Director Institutional Research, Regis University

Issues to be Addressed:

Issues include automating data processes to maximize analytics, how analytics can drive organizational improvements, and what kinds of informational insights can be created in an analytic solution. Outlined innovations challenge our commonly held assumptions that institutions need more resources to improve academic performance. Analytics can help institutions utilize resources more effectively and help improve academic performance.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:
- envision how BI analytics can help their institution improve financial and academic performance
- understand the essential components and output of a BI implementation at an institution of higher education
- identify key metrics that help improve organizational effectiveness
-understand the key outcomes demonstrated by a new analytics program
