Dr. Kathryn M. Plank, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Otterbein University |
Issues to be Addressed: |
Faculty resistance/uncertainty toward assessment. Addressing the connection between course design and assessment. We will be discussing the issues of backwards design and metacognition about teaching. We will also discuss instructor willingness to engage in and use the process of course and program-level assessment for course-level improvement/redesign, as well as to design courses and curricula beginning with questions of assessment.

Expected Learning Outcomes: |
| Participants will be able to draw conclusions from our research—both the research about our own CDI as well as a multi-institution project studying course design institutes at multiple institutions in North America--about the essential components of this experience so that they can plan methods for creating a transformative experience that meets the needs of their own campuses. They will also leave with ideas for assessing teachers’ meta-cognitive awareness. |
